Democrats Sweep Las Cruces Municipal Election

Las Cruces – The Democratic Party of New Mexico released the following statement after Democratic candidates won all three city council district elections in Las Cruces. Gabe Vasquez carried District 3 by 70 percent to Bev Courtney’s 30 percent. Gill Sorg won in District 5 with 51 percent of the vote to Steve Montanez’s 41 percent. And Yvonne Flores took District 6 with 57 percent to incumbent Cecilia Levatino’s 43 percent.

Tonight, Las Cruces went out to vote and showed the state that when quality candidates who want to invest in their communities are on the ballot they win. We’re excited to see the work Gabe Vasquez, Gill Sorg and Yvonne Flores can accomplish for Las Cruces.

“We are incredibly grateful to the volunteers who believed in Democratic candidates, and made this success possible.”

The Democratic Party of New Mexico’s new field program has been working through grassroots organizing to support candidates in local elections. In Las Cruces, the State Party set up a campaign headquarters where volunteers could connect with an organizer to knock on doors or make phone calls.
