Pearce Puts Troop Funding at Risk Over Trump’s Border Wall

New Mexico – Today, Congressman Steve Pearce put funding for our troops at risk over Trump’s border wall. An amendment introduced by Democratic members of congress would have ensured that funding in the National Defense Reauthorization Act would be used to protect the safety of our troops and not be jeopardized by Trump’s plan to build a border wall.

“Pearce once again puts his political ideology ahead of New Mexico—not only would his vote put our troops at risk, it would allow Trump’s border wall to kill New Mexico jobs,” said Richard Ellenberg, Chair of the Democratic Party of New Mexico. “Pearce’s words don’t match his actions—right now his actions say that Trump’s wall is more important than our economy and our troops.”

Congressman Steve Pearce is on the record saying he is against the border wall, but his vote to the contrary is available here.

The Democrats in southern New Mexico pointed to Pearce’s damaging record at a press conference earlier this week, highlighting his terrible record on immigration, healthcare, veterans, and public lands—all of which would have detrimental effects on New Mexico’s economy as a whole.
