Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver Protects New Mexico Voters From Republican Voter Suppression Efforts, Keeps Campaign Promise

New Mexico – Today, the Democratic Party of New Mexico commended Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver for protecting the personal information of New Mexico voters.
During the 2016 election, the New Mexico Republican Party sent a threatening mail piece to intimidate voters in New Mexico based on their voting history, adding to concerns about President Trump’s probe.
“Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver has shown time and again that she is committed to the integrity of our elections and access to the ballot box. Secretary Toulouse Oliver’s approach to protect New Mexico voters’ personal information from Republican voter suppression efforts is just another example of her expertise and commitment to keep her campaign promises as our Secretary of State,” said Richard Ellenberg, Chair of the Democratic Party of New Mexico.
This week, a letter from President Trump’s election commission asked secretaries of state to provide names, party affiliations, addresses, voting histories, dates of birth, social security number information, felony convictions and military status. Democratic officials across the country have responded in the best interest of the voters and continue to work to protect voters’ privacy as required by law.
