Lt. Governor John Sanchez Weighs in on Opioid Crisis, Remains Silent on Republican Threats to Cut Treatment

New Mexico – After weeks of silence, Lieutenant Governor John Sanchez weighed in on the opioid crisis, but remained silent on Republican threats to cut funding for treatment.
Lt. Gov. John Sanchez is shirking his responsibility to stand up for New Mexicans. If Lt. Gov. John Sanchez were serious about combating the opioid crisis or any of the struggles with addiction that our state faces, he would weigh in on the drastic cuts to treatment proposed by Congressional Republicans,” said Democratic Party of New Mexico Chair Richard Ellenberg.
According to recent reports, the Republican plan to repeal the Affordable Care Act would be a disaster for those seeking treatment for addiction. In addition, anywhere from 133,000 to more than 250,000 New Mexicans will lose their healthcare coverage under the Republican repeal. Yet, Lt. Gov. John Sanchez has not indicated that he cares enough to read the bill or comment on these tremendous costs to New Mexicans’ health and well-being.
