Democrats Help Feed More Than 8,000 New Mexicans in Honor of César Chávez Day

New Mexico – As part of a statewide service project in honor of the impact César Chávez and the Farmworkers Union made to advance human rights, fairness and dignity in the workplace, Democrats volunteered at Roadrunner Food Bank today.

At the event, Democrats helped Roadrunner Food Bank prepare food that would feed 8,184 New Mexicans across the state. Local officials NM Senator Michael Padilla, Bernalillo County Commissioner Steven Michael Quezada, and DPNM Chairwoman Debra Haaland joined to give back to the community.

After volunteering, DPNM Chairwoman Debra Haaland said, “Democrats came together today to give back to the community, and honor a movement that made strides to improve the quality of life for workers in New Mexico and across the country. The event was an amazing success, and we look forward to seeing everyone out at Democratic service projects throughout the state this weekend.”

“Lending a helping hand is part of the New Mexican way, and I’m proud to be part of the Democrats’ project to honor such an transformational person, César Chávez,” said Senator Michael Padilla (D-Albuquerque).

Roadrunner Food Bank of New Mexico has been serving New Mexico’s hungry since 1980, and help feed 70,000 hungry people in our state weekly.

The volunteer project at Roadrunner Foodbank is part of a statewide series of service projects Democrats are hosting this weekend and next to celebrate César Chávez’s legacy. Full list of events by county is below:
