Chairwoman Haaland’s Statement on State of the State Address
Santa Fe, N.M. –Debra Haaland, Chairwoman of the Democratic Party of New Mexico (DPNM) released the following statement after Governor Martinez State of the State Address:
“Once again, Governor Martinez was unsuccessful in delivering for New Mexican families. Her speech did not address the real problems that New Mexico is facing over the next Legislative session, with a budget shortfall and a deficient state economy. The failed Republican economic agenda is not only wrong for New Mexico, but is also reckless for our state’s economy. We cannot afford to cut our way to prosperity. New Mexicans deserve real solutions that will benefit everyone, not just Governor Martinez’s corporate welfare program. Gov. Martinez would rather play partisan politics and help her corporate donors than help hard working New Mexican families. Because New Mexico is the worst run State in the country, ranks 49th in child well-being, and is home to a 6.7% unemployment rate, New Mexicans will no longer buy what the Governor is selling.
Over the next 60 days, Democrats will focus on real solutions that will benefit every New Mexican by making investments in education, fighting for Medicaid and raising the minimum wage. Democrats in the N.M. House and the N.M. Senate are ready to get down to business and make real progress for New Mexico families.”
