New Mexico – Governor Susana Martinez continues wasting her energy on issues that do not address the dire situation New Mexico faces under her failed economic agenda. The Legislative Finance Committee’s Report, released Wednesday, points to a significant budget shortfall of $426 million, while Governor Martinez and House Republicans refuse to increase revenues to address it.
“Governor Martinez refuses to focus on the economy,” said Debra Haaland, Chairwoman of the Democratic Party of New Mexico. “Governor Martinez wasted five years of her administration ignoring the economy, and as New Mexico continues to face tough economic times, she continues to postpone addressing the problem and sticks to her harmful agenda of putting corporations ahead of New Mexico families.”
The Legislative Finance Committee Director David Abbey warned in the Albuquerque Journal, “The longer you take to address this issue, the fewer options you have. For both legal and practical reasons, it should be done quickly.”
Meanwhile, Governor Martinez continues to allow New Mexico’s economic outlook to worsen as she takes political trips outside the state, costing taxpayers approximately $26,000 just this year.
