DPNM: Violence Is Not What New Mexico Is About and It Has No Place In Our State

Albuquerque, N.M. – The Democratic Party of New Mexico (DPNM) released the following statement addressing violence at the Trump rally on Tuesday.

“The protest early in the evening was completely different than the riot on the news. The peaceful protest early in the evening was an event of prayer, chants, family, dance, and marching in solidarity. It’s unfortunate that a group of individuals saw this as an opportunity to wreak havoc. It is especially disappointing that the few moments of bad behavior grabbed headlines across the country. This is not what New Mexico is about and violence has no place in our state.

“The organizers who worked as peacekeepers ensuring the initial protest maintained a peaceful presence deserve a lot of credit. Donald Trump has offended people across our state with his hateful rhetoric and reckless policy ideas, and New Mexicans are upset–but let’s be clear, violence is never the answer.”
