DPNM Blasts Governor Martinez’s Plans to Travel the Outside the State While New Mexicans Continue to Suffer
Albuquerque, N.M. – Today, the Democratic Party of New Mexico (DPNM) blasted Governor Susana Martinez for planning to travel outside of the state while New Mexicans continue to suffer. After a series of blows to New Mexico’s economy this week, Governor Martinez still plans to participate in events in Omaha and St. Louis, leaving the state in the hands of Lieutenant Governor John Sanchez and her dysfunctional administration.
“This is a real question of priorities. New Mexico needs leadership right now, and Governor Martinez cares more about her national profile than the needs of our state,” said Debra Haaland, Chairwoman of the Democratic Party of New Mexico. “Governor Martinez continues to leave us in the hands Lieutenant Governor John Sanchez, a Martinez crony who has not shown any competency or initiative to address the serious problems facing our state while he’s in charge. This is just another instance of Governor Martinez and her administration avoiding their dismal job record, misplaced priorities, and blatant mismanagement to the detriment of New Mexico families.”
This week, news that New Mexico stands to lose approximately 300 jobs in Carlsbad put Southern New Mexico in a vulnerable situation, but that’s not all. New Mexico ranks last in high school graduation, the state still grapples with a Medicaid shortfall of $85 million, and New Mexico State University announced plans to furlough faculty.
