Republicans Charge $100 for Press Credentials, Avoid Questions on Trump In the Process

Albuquerque, N.M. – Today, the Democratic Party of New Mexico (DPNM) slammed New Mexico Republicans for avoiding the press and avoiding answering the tough questions on their support for Donald Trump the presumptive Republican nominee. The New Mexico GOP announced that they will be be charging $100 for press credentials to cover the Republican State Convention.

“Governor Martinez and Republicans in the state are avoiding the press. Republican candidates don’t want to answer the tough question: Do they support Donald Trump and his offensive comments about women, harmful attitudes toward our Hispanic communities, and reckless policy ideas? Republicans in our state need to stop avoiding contact with the press and be transparent,” said Debra Haaland, Chairwoman of the Democratic Party of New Mexico.

Shortly after Donald Trump was named the winner of the Indiana Republican Primary on Tuesday, Ted Cruz left the race and the New Mexico GOP announced they will be backing Trump. On Wednesday, John Kasich left the race, leaving Donald Trump as the presumptive Republican nominee.

New Mexico Democrats have continued to hold Republican candidates in the state accountable by ensuring New Mexicans know if candidates on the Republican side stand with their presumptive nominee, Donald Trump, and his racist rhetoric and reckless policy ideas.
