The Democratic Party of New Mexico pointed to a serious misplacement of priorities by Republican presidential candidates after Cruz and Kasich announced that they will be splitting the resources in upcoming primary states. In an effort to obstruct Trumps pathway to the Republican nomination, Cruz announced that he would completely ignore New Mexico in the primary.
“This latest move by Republicans shows that they are scrambling to keep Trump out of the nomination spot. By pledging to ignore certain states in an effort to combat one of the most damaging candidates we’ve seen in recent history, Republicans are showing a stronger commitment to political gamesmanship than addressing the issues facing the country. Democrats aren’t focused on political games–both of our candidates have committed to competing in every state during the primary season, which shows a real commitment to our democratic system that the Republicans don’t have,” said Joe Kabourek, Executive Director of the Democratic Party of New Mexico.
Trump swept the primaries held this Tuesday and currently holds 987 of the 1237 delegates needed to win the nomination–Cruz and Kasich trail behind considerable. New Mexico’s primary will be held on June 7.
