DPNM Commends Attorney General Balderas for Working to Protect Access to Health Care Services in Northern New Mexico

Santa Fe, N.M. – Today, the Democratic Party of New Mexico (DPNM) commended Attorney General Hector Balderas for working to protect access to health care services for women in northern New Mexico.

“We are proud that Attorney General Balderas is standing for women who have lost access to services that keep our families healthy,” said Debra Haaland, Chairwoman of the Democratic Party of New Mexico. “Ensuring all New Mexicans have access to quality health care is the right thing to do, and women in rural New Mexico should not have to jump through hoops to get the care they need.”

Recently, Alta Vista Regional Hospital closed its obstetrics program creating an unacceptable gap in care for mothers across northern New Mexico. Attorney General Hector Balderas sent a letter to CEO of Alta Vista Regional Hospital, Las Vegas Mayor Tonita Gurule-Giron, members of the Las Vegas City Council, and members of the San Miguel County Commission urging them to reinstate the program.
