Albuquerque, N.M. – The Democratic Party of New Mexico released the following statement after, yet another charge against former Secretary of State Diana Duran revealed that Duran lied about voter fraud in 2011.
“Diana Duran continues to embarrass our state and New Mexico taxpayers are left to foot the bill. Voters put their trust in her to uphold the office of Secretary of State, and time and time again makes headlines for misuse and abuse,” said Deb Haaland, Chairwoman of the Democratic Party of New Mexico. “The people of New Mexico deserve a Secretary of State that has integrity and respect for the office, which is why we must elect Maggie Toulouse Oliver as Secretary of State. Maggie has a proven track record of increasing voter participation, promoting transparency, and respecting the trust voters put in her.”
In 2011, Duran lied claiming there were 37 cases of voter fraud, which she could not support with documentation. The court cases stemming from Duran’s lies will cost New Mexico tax payers more than $90,000, according to the Santa Fe New Mexican.
Duran has continuously caused problems for the state. In 2015, Duran resigned and plead guilty illegally using campaign contributions to pay gambling debts and falsifying campaign finance reports to deceive the public.
