Today, on the sixth anniversary of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), the Democratic Party of New Mexico highlights the role Democratic priorities play in helping all New Mexico families get ahead, a stark contrast to the damaging effects Republican policies have had on the state.
“As Democrats, we believe that health care should be available to all New Mexicans, and the Affordable Care Act is a prime example of how our values are making a difference in the everyday lives of families in New Mexico. If only Republicans understood what our state needs—instead of expanding access to health care, they work to block access to much needed behavioral health services and politically restructure oversight of one of New Mexico’s premier health centers.” said Debra Haaland, Chairwoman of the Democratic Party of New Mexico.
Since the ACA was signed into law in 2010, the uninsured rate in New Mexico has dropped by 8.4 percent. In addition, ACA protects New Mexicans with preexisting conditions from being denied coverage, allows young people under the age of 26 to remain on their parents’ health plans, and provides New Mexicans with affordable health coverage options.
