Debra Haaland: Weekly Update

Dear Friends and Fellow Democrats,

I hope that you had an enjoyable holiday and were able to spend quality time with those most important to you. As I shared thanks with my own friends and family, I was reminded how important it is that we elect those who share our values when it comes time to go the ballot box in 2016.

These last few weeks have certainly shown us a startlingly clear path for us to pursue our goals and objectives next year. It seems like a new study is published daily that ranks New Mexico as one of the worst economies in the United States; our Governor is embroiled in a scandal of her own design by virtue of ego and arrogance; the Secretary of State goes to jail and the FBI wants to know about the campaign fundraising practices of our Governor and her top political advisor. It is our civic and moral duty to elect trustworthy candidates who have a vision to turn us away from the untenable path of failure and futility we’ve seen overtake our state.

I am optimistic and hopeful about 2016. We have been given a tremendous opportunity to craft and communicate a message about the plans and policies we have to change the course of New Mexico. We can help build an economy that creates good middle-class jobs, an education system that keeps our kids in school, makes our teachers our partners and prepares students for success, builds a productive Democrat-led New Mexico House and Senate and elects a Secretary of State that will ensure honest, fair and inclusive elections now and in the future.

We have a lot to be thankful for and even more to look forward to in the new year.

Happy New Year!
