FBI said to be interviewing several Republicans regarding allegations
The Santa Fe New Mexican reported today that Governor Susana Martinez’s top advisor Jay McCleskey has been under FBI investigation for several months regarding fundraising activities dating back to her first term in office. This investigation was announced on the heels of the resignation of Secretary of State Dianna Duran, who left office after an investigation by Attorney General Hector Balderas revealed that she had been moving campaign money into her personal accounts. Duran and Martinez share at least one thing in common: Jay McCleskey served as both official’s campaign consultant in 2010 and 2014.
“We know Governor Martinez keeps Jay McCleskey as her top advisor because he gets his hands dirty for her,” said Joe Kabourek, Executive Director of the Democratic Party of New Mexico. “Instead of focusing on her out of state donors and the special interests, Governor Martinez needs to put our New Mexican families first. We need an economy that will work for everyone, not just the wealthy few.”
