There’s rarely been a better time to be a Democrat in New Mexico than right now. Activist Neri Holguin wrote a brilliant op-ed in the Santa Fe New Mexican detailing the conflicts that have dogged our indicted Secretary of State Dianna Duran. The story ran on Sunday, the same day our new Executive Director Joe Kabourek penned a response to former GOP Chairman Harvey Yates, in which Yates criticized Attorney General Hector Balderas for even bringing the case against Duran.
The bottom line is this; Yates is wrong, Duran is wrong, and the Democratic Party of New Mexico will hold them, and all Republicans, accountable in 2016. There is much to be gained by allowing the process to run its course, and for Duran to resign, be convicted, or be impeached. The DPNM will avoid wading into legal waters and potentially tainting an otherwise unimpeachable prosecution by the Attorney General’s office. The New Mexico GOP has been waging a war on good government since Gov. Martinez was elected in 2010, and it’s up to us to stop them.
We are gearing up right now to put the people and financial resources we need all together to create one unbeatable and immovable force for doing what’s right for New Mexico. One way to help is to be sure and join us at the 3rd Annual Rising Star Dinner on October 16th in Albuquerque featuring HUD Secretary Julián Castro, or if you aren’t able to attend, please consider joining our $16 in ’16 program to help us build a war chest to support our Dems up and down the ticket. If you fancy yourself a writer – write a letter to the editor, and copy us on it see we can send it out too. A rising tide does indeed lift all boats, just as a chorus is heard much more clearly than a single voice. We are stronger together, and when united, we are unstoppable. Thank you for everything you do for our Party.
In your service,
Debra A. Haaland
