Debra Haaland: Weekly Update

Dear Democrats,

As New Mexicans celebrate this beautiful summer season there is tremendous energy and enthusiasm for moving our state forward with the progressive, enlightened agenda of the Democratic Party. On Tuesday we had a fundraiser for the DPNM at the Isotopes Game, where I had the opportunity to spend time with several of our strongest supporters and enjoy the beautiful weather and the game against Salt Lake City. I had ceremonial activities all week and yesterday we celebrated the Pecos Feast of Persingula at Jemez Pueblo. I was happy to see many familiar faces, including Democratic leaders who came to enjoy the culture that is New Mexico!

On Saturday I was honored to attend the dedication of the Isleta Pueblo Elementary School. The school, which had been a Bureau of Indian Education school for many years, is now a “tribally-controlled school,” thanks in-part to support by Senators Heinrich and Udall and our Democratic leaders. It is always good for tribes to have support for self-determination.

The first GOP debate is this Thursday August 6th! We encourage ALL OF YOU to either join us at the AFSCME Union Hall in Albuquerque or host your own watch party; it promises to be nothing if not entertaining. Be sure to Tweet out and Facebook any Trumpisms you hear and flood social media with the truth about the GOP presidential line-up and their regressive, oppressive agenda.

In your service,

Debra Haaland
DPNM State Chairwoman
