Debra Haaland: Weekly Update

Dear Democrats,

This past week was filled with action and energy that bodes well for great things to come! More than 100 people attended our event at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center honoring Senate Majority Leader Michael Sanchez. He was presented with a proclamation from New Mexico’s tribal leaders recognizing him for saving Indian Day at the legislature, “making the lives of everyday New Mexicans better,” as well as to unwavering support to our Indian communities.

We also received great coverage for my comments on Jeb Bush being wrong for New Mexicans and America, as well as my remarks criticizing Gov. Martinez for her line item vetoes of over $1 million in capital outlay money for tribes.

I was also very excited to attend the Valencia County Breakfast in Los Lunas and the Keep Sandoval Blue event with our Vice Chairman Juan Sanchez. Seeing so many fired up Democrats this early makes me even more excited to turn NM Blue in 2016! We were also thrilled to have New Mexico’s very own Raul Alvillar, National Political for the DNC, as well as PaaWee Rivera, the Director at the new DNC Native American Desk in attendance. Having New Mexicans in such high level positions at the DNC strengthens my hope that we will receive the attention and resources we need to win our state back next year, but we must also do our part. If you haven’t made a contribution or signed up to volunteer with the Party, please do so soon. We’re counting on you to step up!

In your service,

Debra Haaland
