Chairwoman Haaland “Dismayed and Disappointed” in Gov’s Veto of Tribal Funds

Projects vetoed include senior center, health and wellness center

“I am dismayed and disappointed that Governor Martinez chose to wield the sharp end of her veto pen at the expense of several New Mexico Indian communities. By vetoing capital outlay for a senior center, a health and wellness center, as well as road maintenance and grading equipment, she has demonstrated her lack of understanding of the most basic needs of native people in these small, under-served communities. It is very clear that Governor Martinez is out of touch with the everyday New Mexican, and especially our native communities,” Haaland, who is an enrolled member of Laguna Pueblo, told the Journal.
