Debra Haaland: Weekly Update

Dear Democrat,

Let me begin this week’s letter with a big thank you to outgoing Executive Director Jon Lipshutz. Jon fulfilled his obligations in exemplary fashion. Though we are sad to see him leave, I am happy to report that he will continue to work in New Mexico, and we wish him all the best in the future. Our search for a new Executive Director is well underway.

Second, I’d like to congratulate Albuquerque City Council candidates Pat Davis and Israel Chavez for qualifying for public financing in the Albuquerque City Council races. It’s great to see progressive candidates have the opportunity to focus solely on issues and voter outreach instead of trying to keep up with the GOP fundraising machine.

Speaking of the GOP Machine, we will be honoring one of its favorite targets, Senate Majority Leader Michael Sanchez, June 18th at 5:30 pm at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center. Senator Sanchez was our rock when it came to advancing Native American interests this past session, and I know you feel like I do; it is important to take an evening to honor him for his indomitable will to do what is right for all New Mexicans. Please make plans to join us for an evening of solidarity and celebration. To RSVP, please click here.

Thank you for everything that you do. I hope you have a wonderful week.

In your service,

Debra Haaland
State Chairwoman
