Debra Haaland: My First Week

Dear Democrat,

My first week in office was a wild one, and was also wildly successful!

I’d like to thank my executive team of Juan Sanchez, Robert Lara, and Neomi Martinez-Parra for their unwavering support as we have begun the process of winning in 2016! I’d also like to thank the Pueblo of Zia for allowing us to use the Zia Symbol on our new logo!

On Monday, we hit the ground running, and I’m happy to report that we have already received over $10,000 in contributions, in addition to increasing our monthly contributors by over 400%!

In addition to making inroads on the financial front, we also held the Albuquerque Journal accountable when the Editorial Board opted to publish a piece unjustly attacking our Attorney General Hector Balderas and State Auditor Tim Keller. We also submitted our delegate plan to the DNC for 2016 and opened the SCC committee process for applications.

On Friday I was able to attend the Association of State Democratic Chairs meeting in San Francisco, and was happy to learn of the support New Mexico has around the country, including that of Chairwoman of the DNC Debbie Wasserman Schultz and DNC political director and New Mexico native Raul Alvillar. It is wonderful to know that New Mexican’s have such fierce and adamant allies in our corner as we prepare for the 2016 elections. Chairwoman Wasserman Schultz said that we’ll “plant the Democratic flag in every corner of the country,” and make sure Americans know we believe in inclusion, empowerment, and opportunity!

My first week in office concluded with a radio interview yesterday morning with KSWV in Santa Fe, talking about my first week and plans moving forward. I feel truly blessed to be your Chairwoman and to be working on behalf of New Mexicans. We are just getting started and I hope you’ll join us!

In your service,

Deb
