Congressman Ben Ray Lujan Statement on DHS Funding

Congressman Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico’s Third District released the following statement today after voting for a clean bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) through the end of the fiscal year.

“By finally joining Democrats in passing a full-year funding bill – a bill that House Republicans could have brought up for a vote anytime in the last three months – the Department of Homeland Security will now have the resources and certainty it needs.

“Since last year, Republicans’ political games with stopgap funding bills have had a negative impact on the Department’s ability to plan and allocate billions of dollars in grants that fund local emergency management programs that support first responders, such as firefighters and EMTs.  DHS will now be able to move forward with these critical grants, but not before the American people learned that House Republicans are willing to put their political security ahead of America’s national security.”
