NM Secretary of State Issues Complaint Against Republican PRC Commissioner Ben Hall for Violation of State Campaign Finance Act

The Office of the New Mexico Secretary of State has issued a letter to Republican PRC Commissioner Ben Hall (NM-PRC5) that a complaint has been filed against him, and his campaign for a violation of New Mexico statutes under the Voter Action Act.

Specifically, Commissioner Ben Hall has paid himself and his wife “consultant” salaries and expenses from public funds provided to his campaign committee under the State’s public campaign financing system, which is prohibited under the laws of the State of New Mexico.

According to the letter issued today by Secretary of State Duran, Commissioner Hall had “previously advised [Hall’s] campaign treasurer that this practice is not permitted.” The Secretary of State has demanded all funds paid to himself and his wife be returned within five days.

Under State Law Commissioner Hall is subject to a $10,000 fine if found in violation of the Act.
