Congressman Ben Ray Luján: House Republicans Sue the President Instead of Addressing the Priorities of the American People

Congressman Ben Ray Luján released the following statement after House Republicans moved forward with legislation supporting a lawsuit against the President rather than addressing critical issues facing the country.

“House Republicans hit a new low with their frivolous lawsuit against President Obama. Rather than spend time bringing legislation to the floor that grows our economy, spurs job creation, makes college more affordable, or fixes our broken immigration system, House Republicans wasted more time playing politics and attacking President Obama for doing what they have failed to do – act on the pressing issues facing our country.

“The American people want leaders who will work on real solutions to strengthen the middle class and create good jobs in our communities. All House Republicans have to offer is a lawsuit against the President that has been widely criticized by numerous legal scholars. House Democrats have an agenda to strengthen the middle class by providing affordable, quality education; investing in roads and bridges; ensuring equal work for equal pay; and providing incentives to create good jobs right here at home. With only days left before the House begins the August district work period, our focus should be on the priorities of the American people, not a political stunt aimed to appease members of the Tea Party.”
