AFSCME Call to Action

April 4, 5 and 6, 2014

AFSCME is requesting help from our brothers and sisters in the NM Federation of Labor to join us in the fight against Governor Susanna Martinez’s attack on public employees.

AFSCME is asking for support with an organizing drive to sign up members on April 4, 5 and 6, in Albuquerque. We have recruited several of our AFSCME members for this effort but we need additional help to reach the large number of non-payers and fair share payers.

Governor Martinez has escalated her attack on public employees in the AFSCME and CWA bargaining units. The Governor’s representatives at the bargaining table have sought to strip the majority of workers’ rights out of the contract, including the basic concept of a workweek. In statements made just last week, the Governor made it very clear that public employees should not have the benefit of union deductions.

To prepare for the fight back, AFSCME Council 18 will be conducting an organizing training on Friday, April 4, starting at 9 AM followed by house visits Friday afternoon, Saturday, and half a day on Sunday.

Any AFL-CIO union members who are interested in participating email Connie Derr or call 266-2505.
