In a few weeks the New Mexico Legislature will begin its 30 day session. Governor Martinez will give her State of the State Address and attempt to list all of the great things that have happened the past 3 years, kicking off her desperate campaign for re-election. Democrats will make sure the lies, falsehoods, ignorance and neglect, all matter of course for this administration, will be examined, debated and publicized.
This year, DPNM will be focused on electing a Democratic ticket, from the bottom to the top. Our candidates are experienced problem solvers and will offer solutions to the Martinez/McCleskey jobs crisis and to the failed education policies of Hanna Skandera that have been discredited over and over again in every state that has tried to implement them.
First, we need to raise the minimum wage to $10 per hour, at a minimum. No working man or woman deserves anything less. DPNM will work to get a constitutional amendment passed in the 2014 legislative session to raise the minimum wage. This amendment does not need approval from Governor Martinez and will go straight to the voters for approval on November 4, 2014. Albuquerque and Santa Fe have minimum wages higher than the federal wage of $7.25 per hour. So do 21 states and more than 100 counties.
Governor Martinez and state Republicans have worked hard to destroy the New Mexico economy with one failed idea and excuse after another. They continue to blame working men and women, teachers, immigrants, unions and everyone else these past 3 years, while failing to create one good paying job or provide any vision or plan for the future.
Enough is enough. DPNM and Democratic candidates are ready to offer ideas and solutions to improve the lives of New Mexicans and the generations to come. It starts with raising the minimum wage right now.
DPNM is Building the Future.
