“If House Republicans truly wanted to support Indian Country, they would allow a vote on the Senate-passed clean funding compromise to immediately reopen all of the government. Instead, this deceitful legislation fails to fund numerous programs that are vital to Native Americans and their families – including law enforcement, employment and training, housing and education programs.

“The Navajo Nation has already rejected House Republicans’ bit-by-bit approach to funding the government, saying ‘The current piecemeal approach House Republicans are using to fragment tribal communities from the rest of the country is insulting.’

“New Mexico’s Native American communities, which have already been hard-hit by sequestration, need and deserve a full funding bill.
